Medical Physics Applications Colloquium at FMS

Saturday, 30 December 2017

Under the auspices of AL-Nasser University’s Board and in the presence of Dr. Ahmed Saif Muharram (CBT), a colloquium on Medical Physics Application was held at FMS last Thursday, Dec 28, 2017, with the participation of Pharmacy & Lab fresher students.

The colloquium was chiefly meant to foster the students’ experience in research methodology, acquaint them with the fundamentals of publishing papers in academic journals, and develop their skills in presentations and viva voce.

Fourteen research papers covering the main topics in Physics and its medical application were presented in the event. They included: X-ray scanning, Medical Nano-technology, Magnetic Resonance scanning, Radio-therapy, Ultrasound applications, Tomography scanning, Nuclear Medicine, taking blood pressure, Radio-activity in medicine, Cardiography and its medical applications, the use of Laser in medicine and surgery, Electrocardiograph, and Thermal scanning.

According to Dr. Hasan Mureidi (the instructor of Nuclear Physics and supervisor of the research papers), the modern teaching strategy is based on three pillars: research, communication, and participation. Together, these three factors make the student contribute positively to curriculum design. The present colloquium takes place as a practical answer to the students’ persistent question how important Physics is to medical studies since most medical applications originate in Physics. Dr. Mureidi thanked Al-Nasser University for the cooperative support to the colloquium.

For his part, Dr. Yasser El-Madhaji (Head of Pharmacy Department) valued the supervisor’s as well as students’ efforts towards conducting the colloquium. He confirmed the University’s committed support to such activities that foster the students’ inclination to research and knowledge as the cornerstones of any nation’s progress.

Divided into twenty-eight research groups, the participants had their papers displayed in posters so as to follow the traditions of international conferences. Each group took its turn in presenting their research and discussing it with the observing instructors and students.

The colloquium was held at the FMS’ building in the presence of Dr. Anwar Mas’oud (Director of Quality Unit), Dr. Yasser El-Madhaji (Head of Pharmacy Department), Dr. Abdurraqeeb El-Hannani (Head of Nursing Department), Dr. Mukhtar El-Zumor (Head of Lab Department), faculty members, and a large number of students.
