Seminar on Cholera Epidemic

Tuesday, 20 December 2016

An outreach seminar was held at Faculty of Medical Sciences over the cholera epidemic: prevention and treatment. The seminar was conducted in collaboration with Red Crescent, Red Cross, and My Health organizations last Monday, Dec 19, 2016, with a large number of college students as participants.

Aiming at raising the cholera outreach, the seminar tackled the following themes: introducing the epidemic, causes and manners of spread; the first aid necessary for suspect cases; and the prevention methods as well as hygienic precautions to avoid infection.

In his paper, Dr. Ahmed El-Qubati (Director of Training at My Health Org) explained how cholera is an outspread epidemic and how simple the methods of prevention and first aid are. The health orgs and medical institutions have to educate the community over such procedures to control its spread. He, besides, offered his thanks to the Chancellor of Al-Nasser University and FMS Dean for sponsoring the seminar.

According to him, a broad outreach campaign is currently carried out by My Health Org to control the epidemic. The first phase has targeted school students while the second one is to target social activists, mosque preachers, and college students and staff. The third phase would cover the infected areas all over the country.
